Scientific Advisory Board of the HMC constituted

With a comprehensive presentation of the Helmholtz Association and the importance of metadata for future advancement in science and research, the President of the Helmholtz Association, Prof. Dr. Otmar D. Wiestler, opened the first and constituent meeting of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Helmholtz Metadata Collaboration (HMC) on 23 June 2021. Due to the restrictions to contain the Corona pandemic, the approximately four-hour event took place as a video conference.

The members of the SAB discussed initial progress, future developments and goals of the HMC Platform with representatives of the Helmholtz Association as well as HMC committees, hubs and units. In doing so, they were generally impressed by the HMC initiative and the ongoing activities and gave additional constructive advice for the further work of the HMC.

In the further course of the meeting, the SAB members elected Eva Mendes from Universidad Carlos III (Madrid, Spain) as chair. The other members of the Advisory Board are:

  • Mercè Crosas, Secretary of Transparency and Open Government, Government of Catalonia

  • Martin Fenner, Technical Information Library, Hanover

  • Carole Goble, University of Manchester, UK

  • Wolfram Horstmann, Göttingen State and University Library (SUB)
